How does StopDrain work?
StopDrain is a kind of powerful switch for 520A continuous current (peak vehicle starting current can exceed 1200 A in a short time). StopDrain can shut off the car battery, stopping current leakage, but ONLY if you really need to save enough energy to start your car.

StopDrain is not a usual switch, it’s semiconducting solid-state relay (SSR). It is an 100% electronic switching device which doesn’t have any mechanical moving parts. Therefore, StopDrain very reliable in any conditions. StopDrain is not afraid of frost even lower -150 °F (-100°C) and heat up to +200°F (+100°C), water and even acids. Its contacts cannot be frozen or oxidized, cannot rust or stick.

StopDrain™ can shut off the car battery, stopping current leakage, but ONLY if it's really necessary to save enough energy to start your car next time. It will turn off the power to all car systems and save your battery charge ONLY when simultaneously match 3 conditions:
-
The car is in complete rest (the car does not move, there is no driver and passengers in the cabin) at least from 10 to 50 minutes (adjustable from 10 to 50min). StopDrain unique patented feature is own vibration sensor. Sensitivity of the vibration sensor can be adjusted from high to low (7 levels).
-
Item 1 AND the battery voltage dropped below the adjustable threshold (can be adjusted from 11.8-12.6 V).
-
Item 1 AND 2 AND the emergency lights are not blinking (i.e. you did not leave the car in an unauthorized and poorly lit place with the blinking lights as it supposed to be due to a breakdown or accident). StopDrain can recognize this by certain voltage pulsation. It’s one more StopDrain™ unique patented feature.

Only in case of simultaneous coincidence of ALL these three conditions, StopDrain™ will cut off your battery and turn off the power. Obviously, this can happen only if you left your car for a long time, or forgot to turn off the interior lighting (or headlights), or if you have damaged electrical wiring and current leakage (which without StopDrain can even cause a fire).

The device works completely unnoticed, and does not interfere with the work of other systems (door locks and anti-theft alarms) until it's really neccesary. You won’t remember that you have installed the device until it saves your mood, brain cells, time, money, and your reputation as a punctual person.

But how will I open the door and get into the car if I get back to my car and find out that StopDrain for some reason turned off the power?

As we mentioned above StopDrain has its own vibration sensor. Just kick one of the wheels of your car (or do what you usually do when you want to activate the anti-theft alarm system) and StopDrain will restore power to all vehicle systems. Just open the door with your key or remote control as you are used to, get into the car and drive where you were going to. But first of all, try to figure out why StopDrain turned off the power. If you can't find any obvious reason (such as forgotten headlights or a long-term parking), then you should visit your preferable car service center to find out the reason for the rapid leakage of the energy of your battery.

If you don't want or don't need StopDrain™ to protect your car (in certain circumstances) just switch on the blinking emergency vehicle lighting and StopDrain™ won't cut off your battery until it's dead. For instance, if you have to temporary leave your car on dark wrong place due to lack of gas to look somebody for help or due to breakdown or car crash don't forget to switch on the blinking emergency vehicle lighting otherwise StopDrain™ can decide to cut off your battery due to current leakage and your car become invisible in the dark and dangerous for other cars. It is very important by your or other drivers safety reasons.

Does StopDrain fit to any kind of car?
StopDrain™ can be used with ALL king of batteries (EU terminal styles, see pictures) from 50 to 100Ah. Don't pay attention on peak current level shown on your battery, it's 2-3 higher than real continuous current flows inside your starter due to specific terms of usage the term) but StopDiscahrge has continious 520A and 5040A peak current. Thus, it has a power reserve for current 2-3 times for almost any car.
StopDrain™ own current consumption is
- 0.005 mA watch dog mode
- 0.0005 mA battery saving mode (800 times less than single 5W lamp in your car trunk)
Fading and flashing leds (for extra battery charge saving) shows voltage and current state of the StopDrain™. But 99.99% cases you don't need to look at the leds as it's under the car hood.
Monolit fixed housing, IP69K waterproof (1000+ feet ), dust-oil-gas-tight.

But there are some usage limitations:
First one is that StopDrain is designed for EU-style battery terminals. If you have Asian-type or other type of battery terminals it’s going to be difficult to adapt the StopDrain to your car.
Second problem is that StopDrain is to be installed on top of the negative pole of your battery, so it can place the hood closure if there is too little space. Make sure that there is little (1.2 inches or 35 mm) free space above the negative pole of your battery to install StopDrain.

And StopDrain is not suitable for some top-level cars, such as Mercedes, BMW, Audi, because their anti-theft systems do not allow you to disconnect the battery without possible problems with electronics. And, as a rule, such a car has a very difficult access to its batteries. In short, if you have easy access to your battery, it means that the manufacturer of your car has nothing against your self-replacement of the battery, and therefore StopDrain is suitable for your car because its work (circuit disconnection) looks like a usual car battery replacement.

How to set up voltage threshold and other settings ?
After installation, the device will begin the setup procedure. Look at this animated picture. StopDrain™ has adjustable settings of cut-off voltage level (from 11.8 to 12.6V step 0.1V, factory defaults is 12.3V), adjustable time of delay (from 10min to 50 min, factory default is 10 min) and adjustable sensitivity level (factory defaults is max highest level, we do not recommend you to change this setting). All this settings, can be changed from factory defaults by knocking on device surface right after connection of the red wire (with must be connected to plus(positive) battery terminal).
The turning mode starts from about 15 seconds, right after the light column shows voltage rise it’s high position. First you’ll see voltage cut-off level, green led will start blinking on 12.7V. If you hit the top surface of the device just with your finger tip, you’ll see that the voltage level changes from from 11.8 to 12.6V step 0.1V. Keep knocking the device surface until you reach your preferable level then stop for a while and a current setting will be saved into device memory and it’ll go to delay setup. The same pattern but there will start from 10 minutes (factory defaults) and go to mix 50 min (step 10 min). It sets up the delay before cut-off when voltage level falls under cut-off level you set up in previous step. The lsat setting is – vibro-sensitivity level – 3 LED’s blinking. Factory presets is the highest level as defaults and we’d recommend you to keep it as is.
